We (as in all of humanity) generate more data in two days than we did from the dawn of time through 2003. Go back and read that again. 2003. (Oh, and that reference from Google's Eric Schmidt is already aging - is it every single day now?) As data has increased, we have evolved into a society of scanners - we scan the page, we scan our email, we scan everything looking for a nugget of information that is worth our time, the scarcest of resources. I developed the 4X4 Model for Knowledge Content to help clients get the right people to the right content at the right time. Information design and data visualization are critical tools in a communicator's arsenal - designing knowledge experiences that deliver scannable content, interactive personalized content, depth to those who want it.
Attention is scarce and communicating abstract ideas is complex. Doing so effectively, especially online, requires thoughtful information design. This phrase describes the practice of organizing information (whether a complete website or a single infographic) so that the flow and hierarchy make sense to the audience, while serving the organization's goals (whether to market a company, educate an audience or advocate for a cause). User experience design is a critical component of good information design – especially when the work is creating an interactive experience. If the information is data-heavy, I also often conceptualize, design and create visualizations of that data to help explain the stories behind the data and/or to allow users to explore the data themselves.
For nearly 20 years, Beehive was a full service digital agency providing a wide range of services with a great team to deliver those services. But my passion and interest lie in data visualization. Rather than spending all of my time managing staff and clients, I wanted to be more deeply involved in client work. So I decided to return to what Beehive was in the very beginning: me working directly with clients, understanding their business and their thought leadership/marketing/training/sales objectives, translating those objectives into a vision and then executing on that vision with laser focus on the trees (the details) while never losing site of the forest (the strategy and vision). Whether for thought leadership, research, advocacy or traditional marketing, information design and data visualization are at the heart of what I do every day.
My clients are all Knowledge-Driven Organizations. These include consulting firms, think tanks, universities, foundations - really anyone trying to communicate complex ideas to sophisticated audiences. I turn data (a commodity) into knowledge (truly valuable) through visualization. The best visualizations allow you to see things in the data that are not readily apparent. They tell you a story. They allow you to explore the data, taking you beyond what any normal editorial process will expose on a website or a magazine or a blog or…

I have had the pleasure of presenting at conferences on a variety of topics over the years, such as:
–Visual Thinking (and being) for Quants
–Visualizing Thought Leadership
–Storytelling
–Storytelling with Data
–Turning Data Into Dollars: Using Data Visualization to Drive New Revenue (for publishers)
–Data Visualization: From Data to Design to Deployment

In all of my data storytelling, visualization and infographics workshops, you and your team will learn how to think visually and interactively about your data. And I will teach you how to translate your ideas and messages into compelling visual storytelling experiences that impact your audiences. I lead these workshops for organizations and also offer them to the public.
I have created six data storytelling and visualization courses for LinkedIn Learning and Lynda.com since 2014. including a new recurring "TV Show" I call a "Lesson and Listen Series" - a lesson on a theme, followed by an interview with someone in the industry talking about that theme.
I also released D3 Key Concepts, teaching d3.js, the standard javascript library for creating custom interactive data visualizations online, on Skillshare.
Fiverr also launched an online learning platform in 2018, which is the home to another one of my courses on data storytelling.
@billshander Whatever you're doing right now, add to it, "teaching some guy abt #dataviz" - really enjoyed your Fundimentals course @lynda
